Case Study: West Suffolk Hospital and Reuse Network

Ramco's role in cross-org donation

Surplus furniture from an accommodation block at West Suffolk Hospital (WSH) has been donated to charity through Ramco and Reuse Network.

When the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, which runs West Suffolk Hospital, began clearing surplus furniture — including wardrobes, beds and desks — from its onsite accommodation block, it may have been destined for landfill. However, keen to ensure the items were reused, they reached out to reuse experts Ramco for help.

Tapping into its relationship with Reuse Network — a national group of organisations and charities dedicated to keeping unwanted equipment in use for longer — Ramco diverted the furniture from waste streams and helped start the process of finding new homes for the items.

Reuse Network engaged their network of trusted UK charities, including The Benjamin Foundation and Ipswich Furniture Project, and working with the teams at the West Suffolk Hospital, arranged multiple collections for the furniture so it could be prepared for a new lease of life. Any remaining beds were donated directly to Gatehouse, a charity local to the hospital, to support community projects.

The site at WSH was soon cleared of all furniture, with the items well on their way to households in need.

Everyone's a winner...
