Case Study: SES, part of Worley

From Aberdeen to auction

Worley UK Services Ltd is a leading provider of engineering and consulting services across the UK energy sector, supporting projects from offshore and onshore operations through to low carbon energy and carbon capture. Ramco was appointed by Worley subsidiary Specialist Equipment Solutions (SES), a Scotland-based provider of specialist tool and equipment rental services for onshore and offshore energy operations, to oversee a series of online auctions of surplus tools and machinery from its Aberdeen site.

New technology and upgraded machinery led SES to accumulate a surplus of ex-hire equipment, so they reached out to Ramco for help giving it a second life. After an initial site visit to assess the equipment and requirements, Ramco’s team recommended running three on-site auctions to sell the equipment without having to move it.

Specialist needs, specialist disposal

To support cataloguing and maximise auction value, members of Ramco’s team travelled from Skegness to Aberdeen for a week before each auction to photograph the equipment and prepare it for sale. The team then returned after each auction to assist with collections and deliveries, keeping everything running smoothly.

The first auction, which was collection only, took place in February 2026. Then, following Ramco’s recommendation, the next two in April and June offered a delivery service, helping to attract a larger pool of keen bidders.

Ramco and SES worked together on joint social media activity to raise awareness of the auctions across both companies' networks. Ramco also ran targeted email marketing campaigns, reaching its database of tool and machinery buyers and helping to drive strong engagement and competitive bidding throughout each auction.

The results so far

Each auction featured ex-hire specialist equipment spanning mechanical, electrical, welding and lifting categories. Standout assets included an Ametek CTC-650A dry-block temperature calibrator and a Megger MIT1020/2 insulation resistance tester, both drawing strong interest from the energy sector's technical buyer base.

Ramco also collected assets from an SES site in Grimsby, bringing them back to Skegness for auction. A Doosan 7/41G compressor generator was among the standout sales from this collection.

To date, Ramco has sold 4,219 items on behalf of SES. With three successful auctions already delivered, the relationship between SES and Ramco continues to grow. It’s a strong example of what Ramco's expertise can offer a client, and the partnership with SES and Worley UK Services Ltd looks set to continue well beyond this first series of sales.

"Our experience with Ramco throughout these auctions has been very positive. The communication and collaboration between the Ramco and SES teams were excellent from start to finish. The auction process was straightforward, easy to understand, and simple to follow, which helped ensure everything progressed smoothly.

Overall, we have been very pleased with the level of support and professionalism demonstrated by the Ramco team and look forward to continuing to work with them in future auctions."
