Case Study: Sparq

Lights, camera, action!

Event production company, Sparq, blends creativity with technology to create live, virtual and hybrid experiences. For over 40 years, they’ve evolved to remain at the forefront of the industry, creating unforgettable events across the UK. Offering their clients everything from app and web creation, to live streaming, staging, lighting, and venue-finding.

With offices throughout the UK, Sparq has worked on flagship projects such as NHS Nightingale North East, a virtual press launch for the BBC One show, The Apprentice, as well as collaborating with global brands like ASOS. And they’re no strangers to working with high-profile names either, having recently provided full technical support for Sylvester Stallone and Ed Sheeran, to name just a few.

Keen to bolster their business sustainability, Sparq embraced the referral of Ramco from a supplier with open arms. With huge demand on the events industry, businesses have no choice but to use cutting-edge technology, but this means existing kit dates quickly. By partnering with Ramco, Sparq has been able to find new uses for old products.

(Re)-Investing in the future

With over 26 years’ experience in breathing new life into surplus assets, Ramco provided Sparq with the perfect service to support its sustainability goals. Since early 2022, everything from production lighting, audio systems and projectors, to staging, cables and much more has been collected and sold to new customers. This has unlocked vital funds for Sparq which have been reinvested into the company.

Whilst primarily using Ramco to find new homes for its unwanted equipment, Sparq’s charitable arm also provides schools and colleges with some surplus production tech to help young people up and down the country get hands-on experience in the events sector.

Having achieved such successful results so far, the relationship between Sparq and Ramco continues to develop with more unwanted assets being sent to Ramco regularly.

“From the start, it was evident that Ramco’s business model aligned with our sustainability plan. Working with them has proved to be a real eye-opener and we’ve become much more aware of the potential in our unwanted equipment. We’ve been extremely surprised by the amount of value found in the surplus items held across the Sparq network.

“By adopting a circular economy approach, we’re able to implement our plan and reassure our staff and suppliers that we as a company are committed to freeing up assets in the most sustainable way possible.

“We’d encourage other organisations in our industry to look at finding a sustainable way to free themselves of products that are obsolete as well as purchasing recycled equipment when they need to. The team at Sparq look forward to continuing working with Ramco and finding new homes for even more equipment”.
