Government Legal Department
Case Study

On-site auction is the ideal agent for the Government Legal Department

Following a recommendation from contract caterer Baxter Storey, Ramco Foodservices were contacted by the UKGovernment Legal Department to see if they could assist with the removal of surplus commercial kitchen equipment from the fifteenth floor of the iconic One Kemble Street building in central London. The Grade II listed cylindrical tower was completed in 1968 and built specifically to prevent buildings in those streets being blocked from sunlight!

Known jointly as Space House, One Kemble Street is also connected (via an enclosed walkway) to CAA House, the current home of the Civil Aviation Authority and National Air Traffic Control!

After recently needing to relocate to other offices located across the city, and with the catering equipment no longer required, the Government Legal Department trusted in Ramco to manage the efficient removal and resale of the surplus assets.

After an initial on-site visit, followed by a detailed assessment of the range of catering items in the kitchen and dining areas, it was decided that the best option was to hold a sale from site; not only did this offer a more profitable solution, but also kept the impact on the environment to a minimum.

Ramco comprehensively arranged and conducted the complete process; including not only the removal, presentation, photography and cataloguing of the assets, but also the marketing, customer viewings and collection.

Jonathan Longley, Facilities Manager for the Government Legal Department said:

“When I was initially made aware that our team needed to vacate One Kemble Street, I was expecting a significant cost to have all our kitchen equipment removed. However, the proposal presented by Ramco offered an ideal solution. A variety of large catering equipment, including fridges, fryers and ovens, was efficiently removed and resold; with us receiving a share of the sale proceeds, which could then be paid into our receipts account and subsequently sent to HM Treasury. It was a necessity that the whole process was completed quickly and effectively, with Ramco effortlessly meeting our needs and expectations – we would not hesitate to recommend them”.
