The house was built at the turn of the last century for Lady Weigall on a site she chose in the area of her favourite "pet wood". She and her husband Sir Archibald Weigall lived here and entertained many famous personages including : King George V, King George V1 and the Princesses Marie Louise and Alice.
During the Second World War the RAF requisitioned the house and in 1943 it became the officers mess for 617 Squadron - the famous 'Dambusters'. Today the Squadron Bar is dedicated to the memory of this famous group of men.

The George of Stamford is one of England's greatest coaching inns. It retains the charm and atmosphere of its long history yet offers every modern comfort. The exact age is not known but from what historians have discovered it appears The George must be about 900 years old as it was gifted to the Abbey of Croyland around the period 947 A.D., though in those days it must have been comparatively small for the present George incorporates much of the structure of two religious houses which bounded the old inn on each side.

This property was once a coaching inn in the early 17th century. Little is known of this early history but it is at present being researched.
The name Admiral Rodney comes from Admiral George Brydges Rodney, a notable British Naval officer who is famous for winning various battles against European navies. He was also the governor of Newfoundland in 1749.
